“The Assignment,” a Pushcart Prize Nominee

I’m so grateful to the editors at Sweet, who published “The Assignment,” a creative nonfiction piece, in September and have now nominated it for a Pushcart Prize. It’s about a very special high school teacher of mine, who challenged us to go where writing takes us, however sloppy or ugly that place may be, then carefully, ruthlessly retrace our steps.
