I just got back from the Vermont College of Fine Arts Postgraduate Writers’ Conference. I was delighted to have the chance to work with Sonja Livingston and the gifted writers in her creative nonfiction workshop. Over the years, the conference has become the place where I recharge—and retool. It offers the chance to learn from—and be supported by—authors (and participants) whose work has earned praise and respect. This year that roster included Lee Martin, Patricia Smith, Andre Dubus, Sue William Silverman, Sonja, and many more—all gifted, generous with their time and attention, and fun to be around.
The conference was held at Champlain College in Burlington again, and it was packed, as usual, with workshop meetings, craft talks, faculty readings—and participant readings as well. It was stimulating, fun, rigorous and more than a little exhausting, but so worth it. I can’t wait to go back next year!
