“Out of Step,” CNF, in SugarSugarSalt

“Out of Step,” published in SugarSugarSalt Magazine, is a story about childish defiance and grown-up discovery. It explores the tender relationship between mother and daughter, when the typical strains that come with adolescence are complicated by the limitations compelled by poverty. This girl’s small rebellion takes on larger proportions that are not so easy to repair. But together, mother and daughter cross the divide and begin to recognize the reassurance each needs so badly.
